On Sunday 20th of June Golborne Road was hosting the 2010 Golborne festival and 4Minds Project set up a stall to promote mental health awareness. To attract and entice more people to have a look at what 4Minds Project is endorsing, we set up activities and gave away freebies to people that participated.

The 4Minds stall had three sections; the main section was promoting mental health & well being by handing out leaflets and other useful information. We had set up attractions on the other two sections; on one section we had the fear factor dare & the kick ups challenge and on the other we had a qualified Shiatsu practitioner offering 10 minute treatments.

For the fear factor challenge, we set up 3 daunting boxes where the challenger would have to stick his or her hand blindly into the box and try to find an object. What was in each box? Only the 4Minds team will know. This challenge proved to be very popular as kids; teenagers, adults, men and women all took part. We had parents spurring their children to stick their hands in and in turn had the parents being challenged by their children for giving all the talk. For the brave ones, the reward was a 4Minds key ring and stress ball.

Also on offer was a chance to enter our free raffle, where at the end of the day three winners were drawn out. The first prize was a well – being hamper from Lush; the second prize was a £50 voucher for Sainsbury’s and the third prize was a world cup 2010 official football.

We asked each person who attempted an activity to fill out a short survey about mental health so we as a mental health team can improve our awareness of people’s knowledge of mental health issues. As a thank you, we gave away goodie bags with fruit bars, pens, stress balls and extra information about mental health and well being to each person that took the time to fill out a survey.

The day was a wonderful success and thoroughly enjoyed by the team and festival attendees alike.
