MyGeneration
Our Mission
MyGeneration aims to break the cycle of poverty, crime and ill-health in struggling communities, through people-centred sustainable change. Our vision is to raise aspirations and break the generational nature of under-achievement, social exclusion and dependency, through practical support and development of key skills, which can be retained within the family and community and then passed on to the children.
What Do We Do?
Our aim is to address social and economic problems that affect young people and their families within our local and neighbouring areas by encouraging informal social interaction with a nurturing but disciplined approach. We aim to steer a new generation of disenfranchised young people away from a life of crime, drugs and anti-social behaviour to a life of employment, self-reliance, education and social responsibility. We believe sustainable change must be driven from within and teach our beneficiaries to help themselves.
We develop effective methods and provide activities to engage young people and instil a sense of personal responsibility to enable them to improve their quality of life and future prospects through programmes that are designed to develop people’s aspirations and skills.
We also seek to develop our user’s capacity in order to allow them to take responsibility for their lives and long term support and steer ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed in to sustainable careers.
MyGeneration intervenes early against dropping out of school and being influenced towards drugs, crime and anti-social behaviour as well as supporting people who have already abandoned school and are not in employment or training, by developing and creating awareness and access to alternative lifestyle choices and opportunities. We actively work with families, including parents and guardians, to create a positive and supportive environment and boost community cohesion.
